507001 powers up!

An important milestone was reached on Friday, when 507001 visited the test track at Alstom’s Litchurch Lane works for the first time. Its shoes were unstrapped and placed in contact with the third rail for the first time since it left Birkenhead North.
This visit was just a static test, to allow the batteries to be charged and give on-board systems a run. We hope in the near future that this will pave the way for 507001 to run under its own power on the test track.
We have produced a short video, which depicts some of the Fitness to Run exam that took place on 12th June, followed by some scenes of 001 on the test track the following day.
We would like to extend our thanks to the team at Alstom for all their assistance with getting 507001 onto the test track. Thanks also to Tom, Shaun and Luke from Team 507 for their work yesterday and today. And thanks, of course, to all who have supported us in any capacity over the past year! None of this would have been possible without you.
