Students of Repton Prep School recently took part in an inspiring educational visit to Alstom’s Litchurch Lane works in Derby, one of the UK’s leading rail manufacturing and refurbishment centres.
During the visit, students observed the production of new Elizabeth Line trains destined for London, saw 125 mph Voyager trains undergoing extensive modernisation, and explored our own 507001. Guided by Tom Camps, their exploration of 507001 allowed the students to compare historic and modern engineering approaches.
The experience brought classroom learning to life and highlighted the scale, complexity, and teamwork involved in large‑scale engineering projects. The visit also supported students’ understanding of STEM career pathways, apprenticeships, and the importance of sustainability within engineering.
