Inaugural Meeting Report
Posted on 25th November 2023 at 9:12 pm
The inaugural meeting took place as planned on 19th November. It was well-attended — so much that we had to fetch extra chairs from another meeting room. We had experienced preservationists, interested newcomers and Merseyrail staff past and present in the mix. Thanks to everyone who made time to attend — it was a real vote of confidence in the future of this project.
There was a lot of healthy discussion and ideas bounced around. The important thing is that we have a Committee and a Constitution, ready to take the next steps to get this group set up.
Committee
I'm very pleased to report we now have a committee, as approved by the membership at the inaugural meeting:-
- Chair — Robert Hampton. The person who has been sending you these newsletters over the past few weeks! A founder member of the Friends of the 502 Group and still serving on their committee as Membership Secretary and Webmaster.
- Secretary — Paul Knapton. A volunteer at Tallylyn Railway and (before it closed) the Birkenhead Tramway.
- Treasurer — Karl Davies. A volunteer at the East Lancashire Railway who also has experience working with various community groups.
- Engineering Officer — Shaun Henry. His day job is with one of the big freight operators. In his spare time he has been working on a camshaft taken from a class 313.
- We also welcome James Gleig as an additional committee member without a specific portfolio, to provide additional support.
