Members visit 507001 at Litchurch Lane

We were pleased to welcome members of the Class 507 Preservation Society to a special “open day” at Alstom’s Litchurch Lane on 8th April.
For some of our members, this was the first time seeing 001 since The Greatest Gathering event last year. For others, it was their first time on a 507 since their final withdrawal from service in November 2024.
Our simulator was set up inside the train, allowing visitors to try their hand at driving a 507 using real cab controls. Outside the train, our destination station allowed visitors to experiment with the myriad announcements contained in the class 507 passenger information system.
Members were also treated to a tour of Alstom’s manufacturing facilities, including U Shop, where state-of-the-art Elizabeth Line trains are being assembled, containing technologies many times more advanced than those in 507001.
It’s clear from the comments we received on the day that our members enjoyed seeing 507001 once again – with one visitor even getting nostalgic about the train’s smell!
The committee of the Class 507 Preservation Society extends its thanks to Alstom for facilitating Wednesday’s event. We would also like to thank our trusty super-volunteers who guided visitors around the site and supervised on board 507001.
