Merseyside’s Royal Train Departs for Preservation

UPDATE: Due to a landslip near Gobowen on the weekend of 4th-5th January, the move to Newport did not take place. 507001 remains at Birkenhead North and we will announce a new move date soon.

507001 arrives at Derby for the Greatest Gathering

After two false starts, 507001 finally departed Birkenhead North EMU Depot on the morning of 23rd January to begin its new life in preservation.

The third and final programme in Train Crazy's Class 507 & 508 trilogy will be released next week. “The End” looks at the final 14 months of operations, with the three farewell tours, lots of rare moves and unusual stuff and 507001 entering preservation.

We were hard at work at on Thursday 13th March, giving 507001 a wash and brush up for a very special event at Alstom the following day.

Work continues on 507001 at Derby

Over the past few weeks, there has been plenty of activity at 507001's current home at Litchurch Lane. Here's a short summary of what has been happening, as we work to get the unit ready for its appearance at The Greatest Gathering in August.

507001 powers up!

16th June 2025

An important milestone was reached on Friday, when 507001 visited the test track at Alstom’s Litchurch Lane works for the first time. Its shoes were unstrapped and placed in contact with the third rail for the first time since it left Birkenhead North.

North West Rail & Transport Collectors Fair

The Class 507 Preservation Society will be bringing their stand to the North West Rail & Transport Collectors Fair, held at Crewe Alexandra Football Club tomorrow, June 21st 2025. Admission is just £3 and children under 16 are admitted free of charge.

More tickets go on sale for The Greatest Gathering

Alstom has announced that further tickets will go on sale for The Greatest Gathering. There will be 2,500 additional tickets available for each of the three days of the event, from 1st to 3rd August. These will be the final tickets sold for the event and are likely to sell out very quickly.

507 001 Powers On!
